Organic Light Emitting Diodes (OLED) operate on the principle of converting electrical energy into light, a phenomenon known as electroluminescence. OLEDs exploit the properties of certain organic materials which emit light when an electric current passes through them. Devices that use OLEDs have certain advantages over those that use backlit active-matrix LCD displays, including greater viewing angle, a lighter weight, and more efficient use of power.
